Following a significant price reduction, the 2011 Xbox 360 title Fear 3 has now entered the Xbox's best-selling games charts. The Xbox 360 is seen by many enthusiasts as the victor of that generation's console battles. The Xbox 360 was a console well ahead of its time thanks to its slick UI, the abundance of great titles it offered, and its backward compatibility.

Microsoft chose to give a lot of their games away on the Xbox Series X/S after the Xbox 360 shop closed a few months ago. Not every game from that era is available digitally on the console of the current generation, but the ones that are have seen a boom in popularity and positive reviews in recent months. This is the situation with an F.E.A.R. franchise entry.

Recently, Fear 3 from 2011 reached a few Xbox best-selling charts. Unexpectedly, the game's performance has been aided by the fact that it just got its first backwards compatible discount during the sale the week before. Fear 3 is ranked tenth in the UK and twentyth in the US according to the Xbox best-selling lists. It has even outperformed games like Minecraft, Red Dead Redemption, and others. Despite Fear 3's favorable ratings, users have found the game more easier to get into because to the substantial discount.

There have been previous instances of an old game seeing a comeback. Eleven years after its first release, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 was once again at the top of Xbox's bestsellers list in 2023. Even though that game was enormous when it first came out, the significant discount it offered during a sale contributed to its resurgence in 2023. In order to provide modern gamers access to many of these excellent games, it appears to make sense to offer a significant portion of the Xbox 360 and original Xbox games at a discounted price.

Currently, Xbox Game Pass only offers a select few Xbox 360 games; other titles are available for purchase in-store. Not every game from that era is available in the digital shop, even if many of them are backwards compatible. A few of them are even available for purchase at a cost comparable to that of many games from the current generation. Fear 3's recent success in the charts is anticipated by fans to prove that retro games can still sell well and provide an enjoyable experience for players—as long as the price is right.
