Black Myth: Wukong, which sold 20 million copies in its first month, is now among the best-selling new games of 2024. Black Myth: Wukong, which debuted in August, sold a staggering 10 million copies in its first three days of release and peaked at three million concurrent players. It also received extremely excellent reviews. The Journey to the West-inspired action game has already emerged as a front-runner for Game of the Year, ranking with titles like Helldivers 2, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

Though Black Myth: Wukong is often compared to Souls titles such as Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Elden Ring, it differs greatly in terms of gameplay design and organization because it centers almost entirely around its gigantic boss fights. Black Myth: Wukong is only playable on the PC and PlayStation 5, though developer Game Science is reportedly working on an Xbox Series X|S version as well. There is disagreement over the cause of the Xbox delay. Originally thought to be delayed on Xbox because of issues with the Series S, Black Myth may have been secretly signed to an exclusivity agreement with PlayStation, according to more recent sources.

While Tokyo Game Show 2024 is in progress, a lot of significant news about titles like Overwatch 2 and its crossover with My Hero Academia, as well as the inclusion of some of the beloved Mana games in Xbox Game Pass, has been making the rounds. Former PlayStation CEO Ken Kutaragi disclosed during a Black Myth: Wukong panel at Tokyo Game Show that the game achieved yet another noteworthy milestone, selling a staggering 20 million copies on PC and PlayStation 5 in just one month. This indicates that Black Myth: Wukong has emerged as one of the new games of 2024 with the fastest sales.

Secret Myth: In Just One Month, Wukong Sold 20 Million Copies

Considering that Black Myth: Wukong is exclusive to the PlayStation 5 and PC, this amazing achievement is all the more remarkable. As a point of comparison, Elden Ring, the 2022 open-world masterwork from FromSoftware, only just passed 25 million units sold in June following the release of the highly acclaimed Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. In addition, Elden Ring's availability on additional platforms since its launch makes it simple to understand how well-liked Black Myth: Wukong has grown. When Black Myth is released for the Xbox Series X and S, sales will undoubtedly soar even further.

In a few months, The Game Awards will announce its 2024 Game of the Year nominations. It will be interesting to see if Black Myth: Wukong makes the list. Furthermore, Game Science has revealed that it is developing Black Myth: Wukong DLC, which is scheduled for release in early 2025 and will undoubtedly increase the game's already impressive sales figures. As for the Xbox release, Game Science hasn't yet provided any hard confirmation.
