According to a recent report on the game's sales, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is currently one of the most popular new releases in all of Europe. The update, which highlights the excitement and anticipation surrounding Space Marine 2, was released less than two weeks after the game's 9th September, 2024 launch.

Fans were understandably worried that Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine II might not live up to the high bar set by its predecessor, because the first game and its successor were released more than ten years apart. After all, Saber Interactive, a separate studio, rather than Relic Entertainment, the original developer, was handling the development duties. Fortunately, Space Marine 2 reviews indicated that the game was a suitable sequel to the original and an appropriate homage to the venerable franchise, so it appeared that the concerns were unwarranted.

The quality and positive reviews have been mirrored in the game's sales figures. Tim Willits, CEO of Saber Interactive, said that sales of Space Marine 2 had surpassed all previous game development projects even soon after launch. Based on recent sales numbers, Space Marine 2 may be one of the largest new releases of the year in Europe, according to a Tweet from GamesIndustry.biz Editor Christopher Dring.

Sales Of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 May Make It Europe's Second-Biggest New Game

Dring claims that sales statistics for Space Marine 2 in Europe and the UK, as compiled by Games Sales Data, show that the cooperative multiplayer shooter Helldivers 2, created by Arrowhead Game Studios and released by Sony, sold somewhat more than Space Marine 2. Barely two weeks after its release, Space Marine 2 may be the second-fastest selling new game in Europe, behind Helldivers 2, which has already sold over 12 million copies. Additionally, the numbers place it ahead of other big 2024 releases, including The Last of Us 2 Remastered, Dragon's Dogma 2, Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, and Star Wars Outlaws.

Dring did point out some limitations, though, as the data from Game Sales Data may not always paint an accurate image of the UK publishing landscape. Not all major titles published by lesser publishers are monitored. As an illustration, consider Black Myth: Wukong, whose sales of over 10 million copies—mostly outside of China—in just three days startled analysts and the general public. Game Sales Data does not keep track of these sales. Once more complete and analyzed data is gathered, Wukong's or even other virally famous games like Palworld could rise even higher than Space Marine 2.
