Sadly, the Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile team is among the groups impacted by Microsoft's September 12 wave of layoffs, which resulted in the termination of some 650 employees from the company's gaming divisions. Activision Blizzard was directly affected by the layoffs, as there are rumours of reduced resources for the Warcraft Rumble and Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile teams.

Many of the iconic Warzone elements present in the console and PC versions of the game were also available on the recently released Call of Duty: Warzone mobile app. These features include cross-progression, a range of game types supported on Warzone for PC and consoles, and battle royale encounters with up to 120 people. Activision anticipated that, in the wake of TiMi Studio Group's Call of Duty Mobile's global success, the Warzone Mobile experience would create a significant stir in the mobile industry. After Warzone Mobile was released, it was evident that many players still preferred the original Warzone game, especially in the interim as they awaited the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and the Warzone upgrade that came with it.

Activision Blizzard let off members of the Warzone Mobile and Warcraft Rumble teams, as reported by Stephen Totilo at Game File. Though the development team is being reduced in preparation for future operations, Warzone Mobile will continue without interruption. Warzone Mobile doesn't seem to be doing as well as Activision had planned, even with over 50 million pre-registrations ahead to launch. Phil Spencer, the chairman of Microsoft's gaming division, stated that the company needs to "adapt to shifting priorities and manage the lifecycle and performance of games." Furthermore, Spencer stated that the Activision Blizzard acquisition had nothing to do with the layoffs. The precise number of workers let go by the Warzone Mobile team is unknown, though.

A recent round of layoffs at Microsoft affected 650 workers in "primarily corporate and supporting functions," with the exception of those working for Warzone Mobile and Warcraft Rumble. The company's 2024 gaming division layoffs affected about 2,550 workers; the first round started in January with 1,900 Microsoft employees being let go. Microsoft's recent purchase spree appears to have contributed to the January layoffs by eliminating personnel that weren't necessary throughout the company's studios.

On 26th October, Microsoft is expected to see a historic and enormously profitable launch of Black Ops 6. Pre-order figures may be extremely high because the Black Ops 6 beta just set records for player engagement and time spent playing. Over the course of several seasons, support and content will also be provided for Black Ops 6 as well as Warzone and Warzone Mobile.
