The tech company AMD has released a new Radeon Software preview driver that supports AMD Fluid Motion Frames 2 (AFMF2) technology on AI-powered hardware, so those who own a Ryzen AI processor are in luck. Despite going into preview in July, AMD Fluid Motion Frames will now be available for more customers to test out prior to its official release.

AMD Fluid Motion Frames, which is sometimes likened to Nvidia's Frame Generation technology, use artificial intelligence (AI) to produce extra frames and lower latency, enhancing the PC gaming experience across a variety of titles. In contrast to AMD's FSR or Nvidia DLSS upscaling methods, AMD Fluid Motion Frames and AMD's Radeon Anti-Lag option can be enabled at the driver software level. The AMD Radeon preview drivers are the only ones that can use Fluid Motion Frames, albeit they might not be as stable as a complete release. Moreover, AMD processors with integrated Radeon graphics or graphics cards like the Radeon RX 7700 XT and RX 6600 are needed for Fluid Motion Frames.

Users will now have another choice for gaming on AMD's Ryzen AI 300 series processors, even if they are still relatively new to the market. A blog post by AMD states that a technical preview driver for Ryzen AI 300 CPUs now includes Fluid Motion Frames 2, which will enable the driver to reallocate system resources with a few toggles of an option. By going to the Gaming page and choosing the appropriate option, users can activate AFMF2 after downloading and installing the AMD Radeon Software preview driver on compatible hardware. On Ryzen AI CPUs, AMD's Variable Graphics Memory functionality will also come online, enabling users to switch from system RAM to video RAM following a system reboot.

AMD benchmarked the graphically demanding Cyberpunk 2077 to see how well AFMF2 will perform on a Ryzen AI HX 370 processor. AMD stated that Cyberpunk 2077 might operate at up to 100 frames per second (FPS) at 1080p with a low settings preset after activating Fluid Motion Frames and FSR upscaling. Certain titles, such F1 23 and Far Cry 6, achieved over 100 frames per second at 1080p when Fluid Motion Frames and Variable Graphics Memory were disabled.

AMD wants to give consumers additional options for enjoying high-end PC gaming on the go with the release of the new Ryzen AI driver and ongoing development of the Z2 Extreme CPUs for gaming tablets. It remains to be seen how AMD's Fluid Motion Frames technology performs in the long run.
