The Coalition, the company behind Gears of War E-Day, has posted a new job listing, which has sparked rumours regarding the highly anticipated shooter's potential PlayStation release. At its major summer showcase in June, Xbox recently revealed Gears of War: E-Day for Xbox Series X/S and PC. However, if this job posting is any indicator, a PlayStation 5 release may also be in the works.

A prequel to Gears of War, Gears of War: E-Day will include younger incarnations of beloved characters Dominic Santiago and Marcus Fenix. The game will cover the events of Emergence Day, the day the Locust hordes were first let loose on Earth, as the name would imply. Xbox and the Gears of War series have always been inextricably linked; Microsoft even acquired the IP rights to the series in 2014. The gaming giant's recent drive for first-party multiplatform games, however, is said to have significantly changed its position on exclusivity, with sources stating that there is "no red line" about which of its exclusives become multiplatform.

Although the unveiling trailer for Gears of War: E-Day explicitly states that the game will debut on the PC and Xbox Series X/S, it looks like a recent job posting for a senior online client engineer may be implying that a PS5 release is in the works. The job posting states that the chosen applicant will work with The Coalition's Online team to develop Gears of War: E-Day's multiplayer and online experiences. What's interesting is that "experience with Xbox Live, PSN, Steam, or other online gaming platforms" is listed as one of the preferred requirements for the position. The acronym PSN represents PlayStation Network, which may be a significant addition.

The Coalition Job Listing's Mention of PlayStation Network Has Drawn Attention

Additionally, as noted by user nib95_ on Twitter, The Coalition has not hired software developers with PSN development experience for previous Gears of War games. Thus, there is some validity to the theory that Gears of War: E-Day's PS5 release may have been internally considered. As of right now, though, there's no proof to suggest The Coalition isn't quietly working on a Gears of War: E-Day PS5 adaptation. It's also possible that the job posting is just referencing basic network architecture experience, or that it's even making a reference to prior Gears of War games that have been ported to the PlayStation.

It would be premature to assume that Gears of War: E-Day will arrive on the PlayStation given how little is currently known about the game's release date and Xbox and PC release schedule. More Xbox first-party titles will eventually appear on PlayStation, though, and it will be interesting to watch if any of the company's big brands end up becoming multiplatform.
