In a bitter disappointment for Team Liquid, the much-anticipated rebuild of their CS2 roster has stumbled at a crucial juncture, as the Americas RMR journey culminated in heartbreak for the North American powerhouse.

Despite the offseason buzz surrounding their revamped lineup, Team Liquid found themselves thwarted by Complexity in a decisive best-of-three showdown, marking the conclusion of their bid for the coveted Major spot. This defeat effectively halts Liquid's impressive streak of eight consecutive Major attendances, casting a shadow over their recent endeavors.

The team's transformation, orchestrated merely three months ago amid the tumultuous backdrop of Counter-Strike's offseason, was spearheaded by the acquisition of seasoned talent such as Casper “cadiaN” Møller from Heroic. However, despite the initial hype, Liquid encountered hurdles navigating through the early regional qualifiers, with limited offline exposure since their rebuild at BLAST Premier Spring Groups.

Expectations were high for Liquid's qualification, given their formidable roster and the relative strength of their opposition from the Americas. Yet, their struggle to secure a spot in the Danish Major came as a jolting surprise, with Complexity emerging as the unlikely nemesis in the final showdown.

The encounter with Complexity, a team recently revitalized under the ownership of Jason Lake, underscored the unpredictable nature of the RMR format. Both teams, having incurred a single defeat to FURIA during the tournament, found themselves locked in a pivotal clash, with only five qualifying slots at stake.

Reflecting on the outcome, Complexity's Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski expressed empathy for their counterparts, highlighting the shortcomings of the format and the unfortunate convergence of circumstances that led to their clash in the elimination game.

The setback raises questions about Liquid's trajectory moving forward. With limited offline experience as a cohesive unit and the amalgamation of players from disparate CS:GO backgrounds, the team faces the daunting task of regrouping and refining their synergy. Yet, the repercussions of their failure to secure a Major berth loom large, potentially precipitating significant changes within the organization.
