Monte Esports’ journey has been a rollercoaster ride, marked by highs and lows that have shaped their trajectory in the CS2 circuit. Following a disappointing run at IEM Katowice 2024 and a failure to secure a spot in the prestigious PGL Copenhagen Major, Monte Esports has announced the departure of their in-game leader, sdy.

The decision to bid farewell to sdy was reached amicably, as both parties agreed to part ways, as confirmed in a statement released on Feb. 26. Sdy, whose prowess has garnered attention from various quarters, expressed his openness to exploring new opportunities: “I’m in discussion with several teams but nothing validated, and I’m open to all discussions to make the right choice,” he shared on X.

Sdy's tenure with Monte Esports commenced in January 2023, injecting fresh vigor into the team's dynamics. Under his leadership, Monte Esports made significant strides, evident in their commendable performance at the BLAST.tv Paris CS:GO Major, where they clinched a spot in the quarterfinals. Despite encountering obstacles on the path to victory, Monte Esports consistently secured berths in premier events worldwide, including IEM Katowice, Cologne, and Sydney.

Prior to joining Monte Esports, sdy made notable appearances with renowned teams such as Natus Vincere, where he played a pivotal role in securing their victory at the BLAST Premier: Spring Finals 2022. His journey also saw him don the jerseys of MAD Lions and Team Spirit, each stint contributing to his growth and prowess in the competitive scene.

The decision to part ways with sdy comes at a juncture where Monte Esports, along with several other prominent organizations in the CS2 landscape, grapple with the aftermath of failed qualification bids for major tournaments. The post-Major shuffle is a common phenomenon in the CS2 scene, with teams often recalibrating their rosters in the pursuit of enhanced performance. Monte Esports finds itself in the company of illustrious counterparts like Astralis, Fnatic, and Ninjas in Pyjamas, all navigating the implications of falling short in the tournament race.
