In a surprising move, Team Liquid bids farewell to Damian "daps" Steele, ending his 17-month tenure as the coach for their North American Counter-Strike 2 team. This decision follows a string of disappointing performances by the CS team, which struggled to find success after a significant shakeup in its multinational roster.

Team Liquid Makes Changes to Its CS2 Roster

The addition of Robert "Patsi" Isyanov and Aleks "Rainwaker" Petrov to Team Liquid’s CS2 roster did not yield the anticipated results for Liquid. As a result, the team now heads into 2024 without a coach, a confirmed announcement made by the organization today. Liquid faces a deadline of April 23, 2024, the start of ESL Pro League Season 19, to assemble its revamped squad without daps leading the way.

Daps, a Canadian veteran, played a pivotal role in guiding TL to multiple top-four finishes. Notably, they narrowly missed clinching the BLAST Premier World Final 2022 and ESL Pro League Season 16 trophies, falling short against what was widely regarded as the best teams in the Counter-Strike scene during that period. Unfortunately, the momentum from these successes dwindled in the subsequent months.

The newly formed European roster failed to establish synergy, resulting in lackluster performances that left TL fans disappointed. Despite daps' efforts, Liquid's Counter-Strike roster struggled to break past seventh place, with their earliest exit ranking at 17th out of 32 teams in the final CS:GO tournament before the Source 2 transition.

As of now, Liquid has not revealed daps' replacement, but early reports from HLTV hint at the return of Wilton "zews" Prado to the North American organization. The Brazilian coach has been associated with four different organizations since his last stint with Team Liquid, with varying degrees of success. While zews' return remains unofficial, the future for daps and his potential involvement with another CS2 squad hangs in uncertainty. With the possibility of NRG rejoining the CS2 landscape, the competition for the best NA coach may intensify, adding another layer of intrigue to the evolving esports narrative.
