Global Esports has taken a daring step by appointing Russel "Russ" Mendes as the new captain of their Valorant squad for the upcoming Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) 2024. This move is part of a massive roster overhaul that has left the gaming community buzzing with a mix of excitement and skepticism.

Russ’ Homecoming To India With Global Esports

Russ, a British/Indian player, will now lead Global Esports into the VCT 2024 season as the In-Game Leader (IGL), a role that carries significant responsibilities. The 25-year-old veteran has declared his unwavering commitment to the team, promising to give his absolute best to steer them towards victory. This decision effectively makes Russ the new captain, entrusted with the crucial task of calling the shots in the heat of competition.

As Global Esports finalizes their VCT 2024 roster with the addition of Russ, they now have a trio of confirmed players:

  • Benedict "Benkai" Tan
  • Abhirup "Lightningfast" Choudhury
  • Russel "Russ" Mendes - IGL

Global Esports initiated their roster transformation by securing Benedict "Benkai" Tan from Paper Rex, a notable acquisition that raised eyebrows. Benkai, previously relegated to the inactive roster, has now been thrust back into the limelight as the team aims for a fresh start in VCT 2024.

On the other side of the trade, Cahya "Monyet" Nugraha, a player with a proven track record, made the move to Paper Rex as a replacement for Wang "Jinggg" Jing Jie. Jinggg's absence from VCT 2024 is attributed to his national service commitments in Singapore.

Additionally, Global Esports made the strategic decision to retain Abhirup "Lightningfast" Choudhury, despite him not getting many opportunities to showcase his skills against international teams in the previous season. Lightningfast's experience and potential will likely play a vital role in the team's rejuvenation.
