NRG Esports’ Valorant roster is all set for a significant transformation as it prepares for the 2024 season. The aftermath of the team's early exit from VALORANT Champions 2023 on August 13 left fans speculating about the organization's strategic moves for the coming year. Notably, two prominent players from the NRG squad have come under the spotlight, and one of them has made a candid revelation about stepping down from the active roster.

NRG VALORANT Roster Changes

The dynamic duo of s0m and FNS, synonymous with NRG's competitive journey, is undergoing a transition that marks a turning point in their careers. No longer integral components of the main roster, both players are embarking on new roles as streamers within the NRG organization, effective August 28. The announcement was punctuated by s0m himself during a live stream session, where he confirmed the transition while expressing openness to explore opportunities that may arise in 2024. "I'm not trolling, we're not on the starting roster anymore," affirmed s0m during the candid stream. He added that during this offseason he and FNS will be streaming, 12 hours a day, and if there comes an opportunity, we'll think about it.

The development comes amidst a flurry of off-season rumors and speculations that have kept VALORANT enthusiasts on their toes. Teams across the league have been engaging in rigorous practice sessions with a diverse pool of players, scouting for the right talent to fortify their lineups for the impending year. Notable esports journalist George Geddes revealed FNS's impending move, hinting at the departure of s0m and ardiis as well. Sources suggest that NRG is poised to recalibrate its approach around Victor and Crashies, signaling a transformative phase for the team.

This shift signifies the formal departure of the OpTic Gaming core that once thrived under Team Envy and later evolved into the formidable NRG roster that commanded attention throughout 2023. Even as the team navigated through minor alterations heading into the previous year, the core group remained intact, steering OpTic Gaming to victory in Reykjavík and an impressive runner-up finish at Champions 2022.

For FNS, the potential shift marks a significant departure from the OpTic core, formally signaling the end of an era. The separation process began when OpTic lost its franchise spot, propelling core members into free agency. While most of the core ultimately converged within NRG, the departure of FNS and s0m would definitively dissolve this once-unified core.
