NRG Esports has emerged as the champions of League Championship Series (LCS) 2023. The team dethroned reigning champions Cloud9 in a riveting showdown. The grand finale, held in New Jersey, unfolded as a four-game series that saw NRG rise from the ashes of a game-one defeat to claim their maiden League title.

The fan favourite Cloud9 faced off against NRG after having swept them just a week prior. Despite the odds stacked against them, NRG defied expectations with an awe-inspiring display of determination and skill. NRG's AD carry FBI was named as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the finals. During his interview, he expressed the team's bond and unity, emphasising the power of their friendship as a driving force behind their victory.

This triumph marked a significant milestone for NRG, a franchise that had been absent from the North American League for seven years since their departure in 2016. The roster's journey through the Championship bracket was a rollercoaster ride, as they overcame challenges posed by top-tier opponents like Team Liquid and Golden Guardians. Their hard-fought victories secured them a spot in the upper bracket final against Cloud9, a showdown that will be remembered for years to come.

NRG's Victory Marks a Massive Comeback

Contractz, Palafox, IgNar, and FBI all secured their first-ever LCS championship titles. Contractz, in particular, found redemption as he clinched his first League title since Rift Rivals in 2017, ending a six-year championship drought.

With this victory, NRG secured their place as North America's first seed for the 2023 League World Championship in South Korea. Cloud9, undeterred by their defeat, will represent the region as the second-slot representatives in the newly introduced "Swiss Stage," alongside Team Liquid. The revamped format promises intense competition and fresh challenges for these top-tier teams.
