With the launch of AMD's Ryzen 7000 series processors and AM5 platform getting closer, it is natural for users to ask questions regarding the kind of RAM kit they should purchase. There is some fresh information about the memory support for AMD X670 platform. It says the users planning to use four modules may face problems while running at higher speeds.

When EXPO or XMP is disabled, four modules will drop to 3600MHz speed. This is for four dual rank modules. The same configuration runs at 3600MHz on a 12th Gen CPU as well.

Four single rank modules are hoped to perform better.

Speeds of 5200MHz or higher depend on the capabilities of CPU. Intel's 12th Gen CPUs support maximum of 4800MHz but it is also known that they have potential of much higher speeds with 2x16GB kit.

So, there's no reason at all to doubt the previous rumours of a 2x16GB DDR5-6000 sweet spot with a 1:1 Infinity Fabric clock will hold true.

In case of official memory support, AMD and Intel play it safe. For instance, if 99.9% of systems will run at DDR5-4800 but only 99% at 5600, they will set official support to 4800. Thus, higher speeds are seen overclocking.

Users need to choose between speed and capacity for AM5 system. Gamers should choose speed. A good quality 2x16GB DDR5-6000 set-and-forget EXPO kit always perform great with Ryzen 7000 CPU.

For gamers huge amounts of RAM is not required and 32GB is fit for a gamer.

Ryzen 7000 and AM5 motherboards will be launched this month. That time it will be clear as to how good Zen 4 memory controller is and how it performs with various densities, speeds and rank designs.
