An updated version of AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) is going to release in Q2 2022 it seems. Well, what AMD has said is that we can expect to see this updated version in games starting from Q2, and the first game to have this Deathloop. According to AMD, this new updated version will indeed be better than FSR 1.0. You can go over the video below to see what kind of changes FSR 2.0 brings to the table in the upcoming game Deathloop.

Key Highlights of AMD FSR 2.0

  • Uses temporal data, and optimized anti-aliasing for providing similar, or better than native image quality
  • Better image quality than FSR 1.0 for all the settings, and resolutions
  • Does not need Machine Learning hardware
  • Increases framerates in supported games across a large range both of products, and platforms

So, all in all, there is a lot that FSR 2.0 is bringing to the table. The first genertaion of FSR used spatial upscaling. This was a simple upscaling, and although it is very much compatible, it had various limitations. For that reason, the updated, and improved FSR 2.0 is now set to release. This time around, it will be using temporal data, and optimized anti-aliasing to get the job done. Furthermore, there is no need of any machine learning in FSR 2.0, unlike Intel’s upcoming XeSS, or NVIDIA DLSS.

Unfortunately, as of now, we do not have and solid numbers which can reflect the chanes in performance, or framerates for the compatible games. We can see the changes in the first-look video of FSR 2.0 in Deathloop. However, there is nothing to worry about. At the upcoming GDC event on March 23, 2022, we would surely be knowing a lot more about the upcoming AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0.

AMD Radeon Super Resolution (RSR) also got announced recently, and this will be just like the first generation of FSR, in terms of how it works. However, it remains to be seen if the changes in FSR 2.0, will affect RSR.
