More than 13 years after the release, Team Fortress 2 has once again set a new player record: over 150,000 players were online at the same time.

The shooter Team Fortress 2 developed by Valve is anything but young. The game was released in 2007 and has been very popular ever since. This is particularly shown by the graph on the Steamcharts : Since the start of the recording time, on July 1, 2012, there have only been a handful of months in which an average of fewer than 40,000 players played Team Fortress 2 at the same time. New player record for Team Fortress 2 For most games, the number of players keeps falling after the release, with occasional outliers due to special features such as a summer sale. The recent past shows that Team Fortress 2 is an exception here: the game recently set a new record with over 150,000 simultaneously active players - at least during the recording period of the Steamcharts. According to Eurogamer, the high on Friday was 151,253 players. Today there was still a maximum of 150,218 players. Apart from the number of players in Team Fortress 2, over 150,000 simultaneously active players are quite impressive. In the top 10 of the currently most played games on Steam, it is enough for 5th place, with the first two places with over 700,000 players each being firmly in the hands of the two Valve games Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2. This is followed by PUBG, Apex Legends and finally Team Fortress 2. It is not entirely clear why Team Fortress 2 is setting a new player record right now. Since the game is a free-to-play title, a particularly low purchase price can hardly be the reason for the currently high number of players. Most likely these can be explained with a recently published update: This brought six effects and 18 new items into the game, accompanied by various minor changes and bug fixes.
