Lisette Titre-Montgomery, the art director for Psychonauts 2, has disclosed that the game is now Double Fine's best-selling title. When Psychonauts 2 was released in August 2021, reviewers and players hailed it as one of Double Fine's finest games to date, and a legitimate candidate for Game of the Year. Although it didn't do as well as titles like It Takes Two that year, Psychonauts fans may celebrate a little win because the popular sequel is now Double Fine's biggest hit.
We now know that Psychonauts 2 is officially Double Fine's best-selling game, surpassing the original as the studio's biggest hit, according to Lisette Titre-Montgomery, Psychonauts 2's art director. Titre-Montgomery revealed the sales number in a Tweet on her departure from Double Fine, writing, "My final day at Double Fine was April Fools' Day. Over the last four years or so, I've learned a lot about who I am as a leader and what it takes to be a creative visionary. Thank you for entrusting me with bringing Psychonauts 2's universe to life."
April Fools Day was my last day at @DoubleFine I have learned so much over the past 4 years+ about who I am as a leader and what it means to be a creative visionary. Thank you for trusting me to bring the world of #Psychonauts2 to life.

"My leadership succeeded in shipping Double Fine's highest-rated and best-selling game to date," the post concluded. Although this clearly indicates that Psychonauts 2 is Double Fine's best-selling game, it also indicates the game's minimum sales figure. The first Psychonauts was Double Fine's best-selling game at the time, selling 1.7 million copies according to the most recent sales update, so if Psychonauts 2 is now the studio's biggest hit, it must have sold at least 1.7 million as well.
Titre-Montgomery also claims that Psychonauts 2 was Double Fine's highest-rated game, something we've known from the game's first reviews, with many critics, including ourselves, declaring that the game was the new benchmark for Double Fine.
