Riot Games, the creator of League of Legends, has spoken out about upcoming modifications to the game that will enhance player behaviour. Behavioural systems' product manager Hana "TimTamMonster" Dinh sent an open letter on League of Legends' official website, pledging to "change [Riot's] approach" to toxic player behaviour "to directly influence your experience and build our community."

Riot Games' product head went on to say that the company is now "changing its approach" to combat its users' nasty conduct. As a result, it should have a "direct impact" on the experience of its game players as well as the continued strengthening of their communities. Furthermore, the behavioural systems product lead admitted that the company's players have been "disappointed in the lack of action made in Behavioral Systems over the last several years."Players who get endorsements from others and boost their Honor level to 5 will now acquire exclusive skin as an aspect of the season's end awards. "In addition to existing Honor skins, chromas, and other incentives, these special bonuses will provide players a fresh option to show off in-game," it says. Riot added Champ Select reports to the match start screen in 2020, allowing players to report rival players. However, they never implemented the stated consequences, and this will be addressed in a future version.

After confirming that Champ Select Complaints are still an issue - "despite our monitoring of these reports, we did not impose consequences for them as promised" - the update then moved on to verbal abuse, which Dinh claims affects "the majority of players." As a result, the team will upgrade "to more complex models to strengthen Verbal Abuse detections," with "expectations of up to 10x increases in this area."

Riot isn't the only publisher attempting to rein in its player base's bad conduct. In the last year, over 350,000 Call of Duty identities has been terminated for racist names or toxic behavior, while Raven Software, the co-developer of Call of Duty: Warzone, disclosed this summer that over 500,000 cheats have been blacklisted from the battle royale's servers.
