The Worlds 2021 quarterfinals have concluded, and the remaining representatives from the western leagues have been eliminated from the year's most important tournament.

Gen.G continued the dominance of Korean teams in this World Championship by demonstrating their particular skills and the gap in competition level in their series against Cloud9, who made the playoffs for the first time since 2018 after a miraculous run through Groups.

Cloud9 started well, but after a few errors, Gen.G took advantage and generally controlled the match from the start.

C9 managed to stay in the fight in the mid lane with an aggressive composition, staying active during engages, but in the end, the Korean squad, boosted by the Baron's buff, took the first point.

Cloud9 chose a risky team oriented on teamfights for the second game, with Malphite replacing Ibrahim "Fudge" Allami and Sylas replacing Luka "Perkz" Perkovi. Gen.G, on the other hand, knows how to punish both lanes in order to reclaim control of the map and the first objectives.

While Jesper "Zven" Svenningsen attempted to steer his team during the mid-game, the LCK team's advantage was greater than they realised, and Cloud9 once again fell short of defeating the tactically better Gen.G.

Cloud9 dominated the early game on the penultimate map, obtaining good ambushes in the top and mid lanes, but Gen.G made advantage of the opportunity to secure the neutral objectives and stay strong in the game.

Thanks to solid engages from Taemin "Clid" Kim over Zven, the Korean team forced two important teamfights to turn the match around. With both the Baron and Dragon bonuses, Gen.G had little issue closing out this final clash and putting an end to the North American team's ambitions.

With these performances, Gen.G becomes the third Korean participant to qualify for the Worlds 2021 semifinals, increasing the likelihood of a final amongst LCK teams.

On the 31st of October, Gen.G will play LPL champion Edward Gaming in a best-of-five series, while the tournament's next phase will begin on the 20th with the historic rematch between DWG KIA and T1.
