Microsoft has released details on a forthcoming Xbox console update that would modify the functionality of game patches and wish list alerts. Users of Xbox consoles have already begun receiving the company's most recent update as of late September 2024.

About once a month, Microsoft refreshes its home consoles. Its most recent significant release, which occurred in late August 2024, included additional Xbox game installation choices and the ability to watch Discord broadcasts, among other novelties.

Game updates can now be pre-downloaded to Xbox consoles.

Following up on that release, Microsoft has now released a new operating system update, version 10.0.26100.2239, which made its debut on Wednesday, 25th September. Pre-downloading Xbox game updates is supported with this patch, one of the two major innovations. Since Microsoft originally made its experimental version available to Xbox Insider program participants in mid-May 2024, not everyone will be surprised by this particular change.

How To Use Xbox Consoles To Pre-Download Game Updates

To make use of the recently added functionality, navigate to the My Games & Apps menu and choose Manage and Updates. All of the Xbox game updates that are available for download ahead of time will be shown here on the console. Pre-downloads, as anticipated, are a feature that developers can decide to use rather than something that just works on its own. A few Xbox titles that already have support for them are Cassette Beasts, the Pokemon competitor, Sea of Thieves, and Minecraft. Microsoft promised that in the near future, even more games will use the pre-release update concept.

Wish List Notifications On Xbox Consoles Are Getting Smarter

The second new feature in the September 2024 update modifies how Microsoft's consoles handle alerts. To be more precise, wish list games will now be notified when they are published, added to the Xbox Game Pass catalog, or included in any Free Play Days promotions. On the most recent Xbox OS version, this feature will be enabled by default; however, it is also possible to disable it under the wish list notification settings.

Microsoft also made the decision to discontinue the Xbox Game Pass mobile app, among other changes to its gaming environment, today. The Xbox app will soon incorporate its features in order to create a more cohesive and efficient user experience. The actual modification is scheduled to take effect in November 2024. By then, Microsoft should have released at least one additional update for the Xbox console.
