The renowned Yasunori Mitsuda, who composed the music for Chrono Trigger, has revealed that he will be returning as a guest composer for the Sea of Stars RPG DLC in 2023. When Sea of Stars was first launched in August 2023, it was heralded as one of the year's best role-playing games and was said to evoke the nostalgia of Square Enix's 16-bit games. The acclaim is well-deserved because Square developed both Super Mario RPG and Chrono Trigger in the late 1990s, two games that served as inspiration for Sea of Stars. Sea of Stars not only faithfully mimics these classic JRPGs, but Yasunori Mitsuda, one of Chrono Trigger's composers, was also a member of the team.

Yasunori Mitsuda is a well-known composer for video games, having collaborated with Square Enix on several titles and soundtracks. In addition to Chrono Trigger, he collaborated with Nintendo on titles such as Stella Glow, the Xenoblade Chronicles series, and Kid Icarus Uprising. Yasunori Mitsuda collaborated with Eric W. Brown as a guest composer for Sea of Stars, penning ten distinct songs for the game's soundtrack. In Sea of Stars' "Throes of the Watchmaker" post-launch DLC, Mitsuda will play a similar role.

On the official website of his firm, Mitsuda revealed the news, saying that he will be a guest composer for the Throes of the Watchmaker DLC for Sea of Stars. Although the amount of his involvement in the DLC is unknown at this moment, he is expected to produce a few tunes for the game based on his past work with Sabotage. The Throes of the Watchmaker DLC for Sea of Stars was initially revealed by Sabotage in September, one month after the game's release. Though fans were finally given an update about Sea of Stars' DLC earlier in August, which confirmed its Spring 2025 launch timeframe, Sabotage has remained largely silent about the DLC's release date and progress.

Sea of Stars' three-person cooperative option, known as Single person+, is another piece of content that is presently under development. It will allow each player to take control of one of the game's three party members while exploring a map, much like in Square Enix's Secret of Mana. On that front, not much has been disclosed either, except from the fact that development is underway.

The universe of Sea of Stars, where the group investigates a clockwork place with a carnival theme in search of a unique pocket watch, is about to grow with the release of the Throes of the Watchmaker DLC. Along with a slew of new and old characters, the DLC will also include The Artificer, a new party member, and malevolent clones. The Watchmaker's significance in the Sea of Stars narrative is expected to be further explored in the DLC, according to fans.
