The next generation of Meta Quest VR headset, the Meta Quest 4, could launch in 2026, based on information that was recently disclosed. Some information on the upcoming Meta Quest Pro headset was also made public by the leak.

Throughout the years, the Meta Quest has outperformed its rivals in the VR headset market. Many gamers were won over by the Meta/Oculus Quest's ability to play games and enjoy virtual reality experiences without the need for external sensors or cables, even though it wasn't as powerful as its tethered competitors. With the most recent release being Meta Quest 3, the system has undergone updates that have enhanced performance and graphics since then. But it appears like Meta is already considering the gadget series' future.

The Information, which conducted interviews with three people who may have worked on the devices, is the source of this most recent disclosure. There will be two variants of the Meta Quest 4, according to the source. The "premium" variant is designated Pismo High, and the "standard" model is codenamed Pismo Low. There is currently no information available about the headsets' specs or how they will be better than the Quest 3.

La Jolla, the codename for the Meta Quest Pro's successor, is purportedly in development as well and is expected to launch in 2027. Previous leaks have indicated that the new headset will have a resolution greater than the 1800x1920 resolution per eye of the present model. According to several customers, using the headset has made it easier to stay balanced and comfortable because the headset keeps the battery at the back of the device.

Prior to Quest 4, Meta's Strategy for the Quest Headsets

Some people might be surprised to hear that three years may elapse before the next update is released, given that Meta Quest 3 was released in 2023. The anticipated arrival of the Meta Quest 3S, which would take the place of the Meta Quest 2 on store shelves, could be the cause of this, though. According to earlier leaks and rumours, the Meta Quest 3S will be less expensive than the existing model and will sacrifice features like resolution to do so. Even so, its specifications ought to be a big boost over those of the Meta Quest 2, perhaps making it a tempting upgrade without having to shell out the whole amount for a Meta Quest 3.

VR aficionados should consider these leaks to be rumours until Meta makes an official announcement. It's possible that some of these headsets won't be made, or that the release dates will be adjusted, as the company's objectives have changed recently, with Meta placing a greater emphasis on AI.
