The closed alpha test registration for Riot Games' fighting game 2XKO, which is based on the League of Legends franchise, is now open. This League of Legends fighting game, which was first shown as Project L, is one method of extending the IP into new endeavours. When the game was first revealed in 2019, it included a 2v2 tag-team fighting system akin to BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle, Dragon Ball FighterZ from Arc System Works, and the Marvel vs. Capcom series. Among 2XKO's lineup are several well-known League of Legends playable characters, like Ekko, Ahri, and Yasuo.

Following what appeared to be a problematic time of creation, Riot Games re-introduced 2XKO with a gameplay clip that included an approximate 2025 release window. Executive producer Tom Cannon of Riot Games also hinted at when players will be able to experience 2XKO for the first time, saying that a playtest of the game will take place in April at Evo Japan 2024. Cannon also pledged to hold at-home closed alpha tests for players, which would take place all year long. These alpha testing are currently accepting sign-ups and will begin in August.

The director of 2XKO, Shaun Rivera, executive producer Tom Cannon, and Sajam talk about the game's impending alpha test and what to expect in a new update video. Cannon claims that this playtest will only be available online; there won't be any offline play for this version. An early version of 2XKO's tag-based fighting gameplay will be available in this demo. Players will have the opportunity to interact with the game and provide direct input to the creators, allowing them to make necessary improvements while the game is still in the early stages of development. The alpha playtest for 2XKO is currently accepting sign-ups and will take place from 8th to 19th  August, 2024. Additionally, the playtest will only be accessible in specific areas.
