The timer for the automatic demolition of unoccupied in-game housing in Final Fantasy 14's Japan servers will be restarted, according to Square Enix. In January 2024, housing auto-demolition was put on hold in Final Fantasy 14 in response to the terrible earthquake and tsunami that struck the Noto Peninsula in Japan in real life, leaving a large number of people dead and causing widespread displacement.

In Final Fantasy 14, in-game housing is notably hard to come by since, in addition to hefty purchasing costs, players must "win" the opportunity to acquire a home through a lottery. Even if one has enough gil to pay for a home, the chances of getting one remain excruciatingly low due to the millions of people in the game and the comparatively small number of housing spots available. Thankfully, auto-demolition prevents dormant gamers from accumulating land by forcing them to give up estates they haven't visited in 45 days. Players will have fifteen more days to enter their home before it is destroyed when the auto-demolition timer begins.

Square Enix has announced that the auto-demolition that has been put on hold on Japanese servers will eventually begin with the release of Patch 7.01 on 16th July, 2024. This is the first patch released in conjunction with the launch of the Dawntrail expansion for Final Fantasy 14. The auto-demolition suspension will not affect players who visited their estates during that time; those who did not visit at all will have their countdowns resume with the remaining time from when it was paused on 4th January, 2024. Square Enix cautions that homeowners should enter their properties as soon as possible because there is no set timing for the demolition on the specified day.

Even though Square Enix consistently shows mercy to Final Fantasy 14 homeowners following natural disasters and other calamities, many gamers still struggle with housing. The main reason for the dearth of available estates is the extreme strain that the game's servers, which are already overwhelmed by the large number of players, are under from the housing spaces and instances that are now in use.

Since Dawntrail is set to arrive at the end of June, the developer appears to be giving priority to addressing the serious problem of server congestion in Final Fantasy 14. At Dawntrail's busiest time of year, users who are inactive for longer than thirty minutes will be kicked off the server, same like non-visiting homeowners. For those who wish to avoid losing any spots in Final Fantasy 14, it appears that the solution is as easy as playing and being involved in the game.
