A curious feature of Cabal Empress Caiatl's design was brought to the attention of the community by a Destiny 2 gamer. The typically solemn and austere Destiny 2 persona gains a fresh, humorous dimension from the peculiar optical illusion.

Caiatl, who was first revealed in 2021 as the main foe of the Season of the Chosen, has shown to be one of humanity's most powerful friends and a noteworthy character in Destiny 2. One of the main antagonistic factions in the Destiny universe is the huge alien empire known as the Cabal, of which Caiatl is the Empress according to the game's plot. Caiatl was eventually persuaded to form an alliance with humanity and direct her forces against the real enemy, The Witness, after initially intending to suborn Earth and the Guardians into her fight against the Hive.

After a player named Ekiaz posted a screenshot of their playthrough of Destiny 2: The Final Shape to the Destiny 2 subreddit, startling and entertaining the community, Caiatl is now the source of an unexpected reference to none other than the notorious Furby toys.

Caiatl's armored chestplate was seen up close in the picture that Ekiaz shared. Caiatl, the Empress of the Cabal, doesn't dress like an ordinary Cabal commander or soldier from Destiny 2. Rather, her enormously ornate ensemble, which includes a series of four jeweled plates connected by a spherical medal, proudly showcases her eyes and tusks. To Ekiaz, the arrangement of those plates and the medal suspended between them resembled the wide-eyed gaze of a Furby, the well-known toy that many find repulsive due to its "creepy" face.

Gamers responded by pretending to be shocked and horrified and making light of the fact that a game they had spent years of their lives playing was now "completely unplayable." Some chastised Ekiaz for their "cruel" revelation. Some speculated that the Furby cameo in The Final Shape, which seemed to be an accident, was actually a clue from Bungie about what would happen next in the Destiny narrative now that The Witness had been permanently defeated by the Guardians. Some even expressed gratitude to Ekiaz for the confirmation, claiming to have seen it firsthand but being unsure.
