Surprisingly, Square Enix has quietly released Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler 2, two of its best-selling JRPGs, on the Xbox and PlayStation platforms. Before being ported to the PC later that year, the original Octopath Traveler debuted exclusively on the Nintendo Switch platform over a limited time in 2018. Later, in 2020, the game was converted to the now-defunct Google Stadia; in 2021, it was released on the Xbox One. In 2023, Octopath Traveler 2, a follow-up, was released on the PC, PlayStation platforms, and Switch.
Interestingly, even after the sequel was released on PlayStation systems, the first Octopath Traveler remained unavailable for purchase for almost six years. Similarly, the Xbox version of the sequel was not included, thus some JRPG fans who own either system may find their library a little unbalanced. But thanks to an unexpected shadow drop on both marketplaces, fans can now finally acquire both Octopath Traveler games on every contemporary platform, including PlayStation and Xbox.
This release coincides with the recent disclosure of Octopath Traveler's PlayStation rating, which indicated that the game would launch on the PS4 and PS5. Then, keen-eyed gamers noticed that Octopath Traveler had recently arrived on the PlayStation store, along with an extra choice to purchase the two games together. Fans can now get both Octopath Traveler titles in a bundle for $74.99 USD, or buy the first game alone for $59.99 USD. On the other hand, PS+ subscribers may get the game for a mere $39.59.
