KOI, a professional Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) team, has faced allegations of exploiting the ‘Team Choice Menu’ bug in the ongoing BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023: European RMR Qualifiers. A X (formerly Twitter) user, bobinho126, posted a video, showcasing KOI executing a strategic rotation from T spawn to Mid on Ancient.

The essence of the accusation revolves around a bug associated with the team switch menu in CS2. KOI, it is claimed, made a decisive move without apparent visual or audio cues, leaving the B site unguarded. The suspicion is rooted in the possibility that, through the team switch menu, they gained intel on the enemy's location.

The updated team switch feature transports the camera to specific map locations, allowing players to perceive audio cues, observe grenade throws, and even discern the bomb's location. This unique capability, however, comes with the unintended consequence of rendering actual players invisible.

Bobinho126 contends that KOI utilized this advantage by opening the team switch menu, eavesdropping on the Terrorist team's movements, and acting accordingly. Despite these claims, neither KOI nor PGL has confirmed the alleged bug abuse as of the current moment.

In the ensuing match, KOI faced a 13-5 defeat on the map but emerged victorious in the overall series, securing a 2-1 triumph over 9INE. This victory propelled KOI to the closed qualifier, even after a challenging 13-0 loss in the final to ex-Thunderflash.

Some may argue that this exploit is not a bug but a feature inherent to CS2. Yet, the controversy lies in the misuse of a feature's unintended functionality, particularly Valve's decision not to mute actual players when the team switch menu is activated. The glitch spans across all maps, with particular prominence on Mirage, where players gain insights into bomb locations and strategic plans.

Given the potential game-breaking nature of this "bug," it calls for urgent attention from Valve. PGL, too, should clarify whether such feature exploitation qualifies as abuse, preventing further instances of manipulating matches for personal gain. The esports community eagerly awaits resolutions that will maintain the integrity of competitive play in the face of emerging challenges.
