In a daring heist that unfolded over a mere two minutes, a Tokyo-based Pokémon trading card store fell victim to thieves who made off with a staggering $100,000 worth of prized cards. The incident, which transpired at the Trading Card Highlight store in Ikebukuro on December 10, has sent shockwaves through the Pokémon TCG community.

PokeBeach reported the incident, shedding light on the audacious robbery where two masked culprits targeted the store after hours. Surveillance footage captured the criminals smashing display cases and swiftly making away with over 300 Pokémon TCG cards and products. The stolen loot, estimated to be worth a substantial 20 million Yen (equivalent to about $140,000 USD), comprised primarily of rare singles, as observed in the video.

Remarkably, these high-value cards couldn't be secured in the store's safe, forcing the staff to store them in a glass cabinet—an unfortunate decision that facilitated the thieves' quick haul. Despite alarms blaring during the robbery, the culprits, unfazed, efficiently stuffed the cards into a backpack and fled the scene, leaving behind an untouched cash register.

Law enforcement responded promptly, arriving at the scene within minutes of the alarm activation. However, the elusive thieves managed to evade capture, leaving the police empty-handed. The incident underscores a growing trend of Pokémon TCG-related thefts, propelled by the surging popularity and escalating resale values of rare cards in both Japanese and Western markets.

In a statement to PokeBeach, an employee of Trading Card Highlight expressed dismay at the inability to safeguard the valuable cards within the store's safe. Plans for a swift reopening are in motion, emphasizing the resilience of the trading card community despite the challenges posed by such audacious thefts.
