Esports giant Team SoloMid (TSM) is once again making headlines, this time for a series of employee layoffs in 2023. TSM, a prominent organization in the world of competitive gaming, had already weathered layoffs in 2022, signaling a turbulent period for the organization.

TSM Faces a Series of Lay-Offs

TSM's journey through rough waters began in 2022 when the organization initiated its first round of layoffs in July. The esports community was taken aback when they learned that this well-established entity was trimming its workforce. Only a few months later, in November, TSM faced another round of layoffs, affecting a reported "twenty-plus" employees. These staff cuts sent shockwaves through the esports industry.

The impact of these layoffs rippled across various departments within TSM, leaving many questioning the organization's stability and future prospects. Notably, TSM made headlines when it announced its departure from the North American League of Legends Championship Series, marking the end of an era. TSM had been a central figure in the league for over a decade, making this move particularly significant.

Furthermore, TSM's League of Legends department also saw changes at the management level in the lead-up to their exit. However, League of Legends was not the only game from which TSM made a hasty exit. Just a year after securing victory in Rainbow Six: Siege's world championship, the Six Invitational, TSM chose to leave the space entirely, releasing its players and relinquishing its spot in the game.

The series of controversies and significant departures has left a lingering sense of uncertainty and disappointment among some fans and pundits. The fallout with its naming rights sponsor, the infamous cryptocurrency exchange FTX, further contributed to the organization's challenges.

In response to concerns about its stability, TSM issued a statement emphasizing its solid foundation, stability, profitability, and optimistic outlook for the future. This statement contrasts starkly with the recent layoffs, leaving many wondering about the true state of affairs within the organization.
