Saigon Buffalo, a prominent professional League of Legends organization hailing from Vietnam, has made a groundbreaking announcement. The franchise, known for its remarkable successes in international competitions, is now up for sale, including its coveted slot in the Vietnamese Championship Series (VCS). This bold move marks the end of an era for a team that has left an indelible mark on the esports landscape in Vietnam and beyond.

Saigon Buffalo Announces Team and VCS Slot Up for Sale

Saigon Buffalo made this unprecedented announcement through a post on its official Facebook page. The organization has opted for a transparent approach by inviting potential buyers to express their interest. In doing so, they have opened the door for any party with the financial means to acquire the team and its VCS slot. This open listing signals a departure from the traditional behind-closed-doors negotiations often associated with esports team sales.

The decision to put Saigon Buffalo up for sale is primarily attributed to the team's financial constraints. As the organization stated in its Facebook post, they are seeking to transfer the entire team and VCS competition spots at the most reasonable price possible. Owning a professional League of Legends team is a significant financial undertaking, regardless of the region, highlighting the immense dedication and investment required in the world of esports.

Saigon Buffalo has left an indelible mark on the League of Legends scene. Over the years, the team has consistently showcased its prowess, securing four international appearances between 2018 and 2023. This includes remarkable back-to-back berths at the prestigious Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) and the World Championship in 2022. Saigon Buffalo has been one of the two Vietnamese League teams representing the region internationally, standing alongside GAM Esports.

The team's journey towards international success faced a setback when they narrowly missed an opportunity to represent the VCS at this year's World Championship. They were knocked out of the domestic playoffs by eventual runners-up, Team Whales. This turn of events was a surprising twist in what had been a remarkable run for Saigon Buffalo.

If a suitable purchaser spproachesprior to the start of the 2024 VCS season, there is a strong possibility that Saigon Buffalo will say goodbye to the competitive League of Legends scene. The prospective owner will not only assume ownership of the team but will also be presented with the opportunity to reimagine its identity and branding, adhering to the customary practice within the esports sector when transitions in ownership occur.
