Madhya Pradesh’s Esports Academy
The exponential growth of the esports industry in India has caught the attention of the government, which has taken significant measures to ensure the security and privacy of the sector. Popular online games like BGMI, Dota 2, COD, Valorant, and CS:GO have witnessed a surge in Indian players, capturing the interest of esports companies eyeing the Indian market.
At the core of Madhya Pradesh's endeavor is the Esports Academy, which will conduct a talent search program focused on esports enthusiasts aged 12-17. This program will unfold during the MP state junior esports championship, offering young gamers a platform to showcase their skills and compete against their peers. The objective behind the academy's establishment, according to Yashodhara Raje Scindia, the state's sports minister, is to promote sports that feature in prestigious events like the Asian Games and Olympics. Through this academy, aspiring players will have an opportunity to refine their skills in these emerging sports, alongside traditional disciplines.
The significance of the esports sector has been recognized on a global scale. In a notable development, esports has been included as a medal sport in the Asian Games 2022 and as a pilot event for the Commonwealth Games 2022. This recognition has not only given esports legitimacy as a sport but has also attracted international esports companies, viewing India as a promising market. According to a 2021 evaluation by E&Y, the esports business in India is predicted to grow four times faster and reach INR 1,100 crore by 2025.
