Endnight Games announced the sequel to the blockbuster open-world survival video game The Forest a couple of months back; the game which released in 2018 was a huge commercial success and its sequel Sons Of The Forest, just released a gripping 1:38 minute trailer a few weeks back which has the entire fandom in a tizzy. Though we don't know the official date for the premiere the second instalment is definitely coming out this year. The Forest which was available to play on Steam Early Access was a massive crowd-puller. The trailer for the sequel is incredible too, it's a lot more seasoned and visually appealing than the first video game, and Reddit and Twitter has been blowing up about the promising gameplay. So, here's all that you need to know about Sons of The Forest before it drops.
The Forest was an open-world horror survival game where players could assume the character of Eric who survives a plane crash and ends up in a feral forested peninsula where he hopes to find his lost son Timmy. There's an element of resource building, which made the game a lot more interesting than a first-person shooter; players can help Eric make a makeshift shelter, or help him fight demons with helpful manual tools or ammo. Along with dangerous woodland animals, the forest also has a savage tribe of cannibal mutants who are quite unpredictable; they are not only looking to rip humans off for their flesh, at times they will observe a human or may even try to communicate
The developers used an interesting plot tactic by making the cannibals conscious, and not just hostile to the key player, it brings some texture to the gameplay. The fandom has also unanimously agreed that in Sons Of The Forest, the key player is most likely Timmy, especially since at the end of the last game Timmy's body goes through some ghastly changes. So, the young man in the trailer who is on a helicopter and has 'Fight Demons' scrawled across his wrist, is most likely Timmy. It makes a lot of sense that he would go back to The Forest to seek answers. The trailer also shows an injured cannibal demon who's thrown at Timmy's helicopter, knocking it off-balance, and obviously resulting in a crash; this brings Timmy to the forest where he encounters the dangerous hoard of mutants.
The gameplay for Sons Of The Forest looks a lot more promising and visually convincing than the first game. To understand how Endnight has improved upon the gameplay, one only needs to see how they have re-worked the Virginia, making it more aesthetic and intimidating. The six-legged, monster re-appears in the trailer and this time it has a decidedly female form; her movements are more organic and almost humane. The way she slithers on a tree branch with her limbs makes for impecable detailing.
Fans have also noticed quite a few shotguns in the trailer, but no one wants Sons Of The Forest to be a one-person shooter, since there are so many dimensions to the game and it's not just about acquiring ammunition or killing demons.
Sons of the Forest will be available to play on PC via Steam.
