In a recent turn of events, Activision has found itself embroiled in controversy as it removed the creator bundle of popular streamer Tim "TimTheTatman" Betar from its games, Warzone and Modern Warfare II. This decision came after TimTheTatman voluntarily requested the removal in solidarity with fellow streamer NICKMERCS, whose creator bundle was revoked due to a comment that echoed a harmful right-wing rhetoric comparing queer individuals to child molesters. The unfolding saga has led to backlash, boycotts, and an uncertain future for the streamers and Activision.

Controversy Surrounding Removal of Streamers' Creator Bundles by Activision

Activision's statement, as reported by CharlieIntel, confirmed the removal of TimTheTatman's operator bundle following his own request. The streamer expressed discomfort with his content being available while NICKMERCS' content had been taken down. NICKMERCS had sparked outrage with a tweet on 7th June, making an inappropriate remark in response to a video allegedly showing anti-LGBTQ+ protestors attacking pro-LGBTQ+ demonstrators.

The tweet by NICKMERCS perpetuated a widely condemned right-wing narrative that  associates queer individuals, particularly transgender people, with child molestation. 

NICKMERCS, a member of FaZe Clan and a professional Apex Legends player, faced immediate backlash from the LGBTQ+ community within the Apex community due to his tweet. Activision's decision to remove his creator bundle from Call of Duty games sent shockwaves throughout the streaming community, leading to other prominent streamers, such as Dr. Disrespect, boycotting the game by uninstalling it. TimTheTatman, too, joined the call for his content to be removed from the games.
