One of the most prominent esports teams in the League of Legends European Championship (LEC) Fnatic has benched its veteran Attack Damage Carry (AD carry) Martin "Rekkles" Larsson ahead of LEC 2023 Summer Split. This decision comes just a day after Rekkles announced his role swap from ADC to support. Rekkles explained that the move was due to a lack of progress in his current position and the need to revamp his skills.

Rekkles Benched by Fnatic Due to Decision to Swap Roles for LEC 2023 Summer Split

On 28th April, Rekkles made a huge announcement on his Twitter account that he will be changing his role from the ADC position to the support role for the team during the LEC 2023 Summer Split. He stated that the reason behind this sudden change was that he was not making much progress and needed to work on his skills to stay relevant in the competitive scene.

Rekkles has been a part of Fnatic for a decade and has been an integral part of the team's success. Unfortunately, the team has faced some struggles in the first half of the 2023 League season, and even failed to qualify for the LEC playoffs. Rekkles' decision to change his role and the team's decision to bench him may come as a surprise to many fans, but the veteran player has previously played support champions on the LEC stage.

According to the LoL global contract database, Rekkles' current contract with Fnatic lasts till the end of the LoL 2024 season. However, it is likely that another team will offer to buy out his contract. It will be interesting to see if Fnatic makes a comeback after taking such extreme steps and how it changes the roles in the roster to suit the competition. It will also be interesting to see what the future holds for Rekkles.
