Among the nominees are three extremely popular titles: PUBG Mobile, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB), and Free Fire.

Competitive Game of the Year Nominees at The Mobies 2023

Following are all seven nominees the award:

  • PUBG Mobile
  • Mobile Legends: Bang Bang
  • Free Fire
  • Brawl Stars
  • Arena of Valor
  • Clash Royale
  • Honor of Kings

Krafton’s popular battle royale title PUBG Mobile is one of the most popular mobile game and esports titles across the globe, with its tournaments taking place in numerous countries. The game’s publisher Krafton hosted two grand contests last year: PUBG Mobile World Invitational 2022, featuring a massive prize pool of $3 Million, and PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2022, featuring a massive prize pool of $4 Million. Furthermore, the developers have already announced the roadmap for PUBG Mobile Esports 2023.

Moonton’s popular multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) title MLBB is another massively successful title with a massive playerbase, especially in Southeast Asian countries. The MOBA title was also recently approved for launch in China. Notably, the renowned M4 World Championship recorded over 4.2 million peak viewership, which is exceptionally high.

Although Garena’s popular battle royale title Free Fire is facing a slump and has witnessed a decline in popularity in the past couple of years, its global event, the Free Fire World Series 2022 Sentosa, recorded over 1.4 million concurrent viewers. This may be the primary reason for the game being nominated for the award.

In addition to these three games, Brawl Stars, Arena of Valor, Clash Royale, and Honor of Kings have also been nominated for the award. Supercell’s two popular titles Brawl Stars and Clash Royale have seen a massive resurgence in player base in the past couple of years. Furthermore, the publisher has also invested hefty amounts in its esports tournaments to foster the games’ ecosystems.

Honor of Kings and Arena of Valor are the last two names on the list. Honor of Kings is a China-exclusive game and an extremely popular title in the country. In 2022, Tencent hosted the International Championship for Honor of Kings, with a colossal prize pool of $10 Million, which was the largest mobile championship. On the other hand, Arena of Valor is the global variant of Honor of Kings, which is expanding to other regions.
