Riot Games has announced the launch of the Valorant Premier Global Open Beta, which is set to start on 25th April 2023. Valorant Premier will give players the opportunity to build their own teams and to compete in an in-game tournament. The Premier is different from regular ranked games and has a different set of rules for overtime and map selection, just like in pro tournaments. In this article, we will explain how to play the Valorant Premier Global Open Beta.

How Valorant Premier Works

Through Valorant Premier, players can form their teams of five to seven players and participate in weekly matches over an act-long season against other players in the same region and skill division. Teams can qualify for the Playoff tournament at the end of the season by accumulating points throughout the season. Moving forward, Premier will be made the path for players to enter the Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) Challenger Leagues.

Players should note that, in Valorant Premier, there are no restrictions on who can be on the team rank-wise. However, some restrictions will start once the team is registered. Once the roster is set and enrolled, the division and match schedule will be determined based on the average rank of the team's top five players. The team will then be seeded into one of the 20 Divisions. After this, the team can only invite other players who would not cause the team to change Divisions.

Every week, the team will play up to two matches and earn points towards the Valorant Premier score. The score will determine whether the team qualifies for the next stage of Premier, the Playoff tournament. For winning a weekly match, teams will earn 100 points, while for losing they will only earn 25 points. To qualify for the Playoff tournament in the Premier Global Open Beta, a team will require 375 points.

In the tournament stage of Valorant Premier, teams will use a pick-and-ban system similar to professional play to select maps. During map pick and bans, teams take turns banning maps until a map is chosen. Like in Valorant esports matches, if a team does not choose the map, it gets to decide whether they would like to attack or defend first.

In the case both teams hit a tie at 12-12 score, the match will go into Overtime, but with slightly different rules than normal in-game matches. The team that had won the 12 rounds first will get ‘Overtime Priority’. The team with Overtime Priority will choose the starting side, attack or defend, for Overtime by voting, and teams must win by two. Every round, teams swap sides.
