A sneaky Mirror's Edge Easter egg has been inserted into the new map of Battlefield 2042. Easter eggs and intriguing little secrets are something DICE loves to include in its games to the hilt. DICE has deftly hidden a ton of fascinating mysteries across the Battlefield franchise. Some of them are more overt than others—for example, the Megalodon in Battlefield 4—while others are more subtle, such as the long-running theory that DICE has been hinting at a dinosaur-related plot point in every Battlefield game. Yet occasionally it also pays homage to its past, whether through allusions to past Battlefield titles or to its other series, like the cherished parkour-focused first-person shooter Mirror's Edge.

Battlefield 2042 recent upgrades

Battlefield 2042 has received regular upgrades from DICE since its premiere in 2021, which was generally regarded as mediocre. Subsequent seasons included more maps, weapons, and fancy gear with a focus on expanding the player's options for multiplayer matches, which has kept the game alive thus far despite negative early reviews. The most recent significant update to the game, Season 4: The Eleventh Hour, added the map Flashpoint. This South African-themed map was made with close-quarters warfare in mind.

Mirror’s easter egg reveal

The Mirror's Edge Easter egg was most recently revealed by YouTuber DANNYonPC in one of his most recent Battlefield 2042 videos that used material from the most recent 4.0.0 release. The player may be seen in the video jumping from an aeroplane and landing in Flashpoint while flying on a parachute. They land on top of a crane in the center of the new map, which holds a pair of red shoes, to discover the solution.

Faith, the main character of the Mirror's Edge series, is referenced by the pair of shoes at this location. She not only used the same style of red shoe, but in the original title, she also frequently used cranes and other similar objects to perform parkour moves and jumps. Unfortunately, fans will have to settle for an Easter egg hidden inside a Battlefield 2042 map as they wait for Mirror's Edge to return. The series was never as well-known as Battlefield, despite being hailed as a cult classic in 2008 and earning a prequel a few years later. Also, DICE is currently preoccupied with the new seasons of Battlefield 2042 due to its regular improvements.

It's a charming touch and a wonderful way to honour a popular DICE game. Given that it took almost a decade to get a sequel and that one didn't exactly blow everyone's minds, it seems unlikely that we'll see a third game, at least anytime soon. Whether or whether the series will continue remains to be seen, but at least it's not forgotten.
