Riot Games announced that the broadcast schedules for the leagues in League of Legends esports ecosystem would alter back on December 15, 2022. After a long jolt of suspense League of Legends European Championship has finally been introduced for 2023, with match days spanning Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays. The Winter Split champion, selected during the playoff round, will receive a seat in the LEC Finals as well as 120 points toward Worlds 2023 qualification.
The LEC is in its fifth season and the first one with the new format. There are three distinct stages in the Winter split. All 10 teams participated in Stage 1's best-of-one (BO1) single round-robin format competition. The top eight teams moved on to Stage 2, which consisted of a double-elimination group stage. The top four will advance to Stage 3, the double-elimination playoffs, from here. Best-of-three and best-of-five matches will be employed in Stages 2 and 3.

Teams that underwent significant changes
In an effort to compete at a higher level in 2023, many teams completely overhauled their lineups for the next competitive season. In addition to bringing back Mihael 'Mikyx' Mehle and signing Steven 'Hans sama' Liv, G2 Esports also made changes to their bot lane by promoting academy support Rben 'rhuckz' Barbosa and revamping their bot lane with Martin 'Rekkles' Larsson and Martin 'Yike' Sundelin. The collapse of Vitality's "super team" led to the creation of a nearly entirely new lineup, which will be led by the jungler Zhou "Bo" Yangbo. Along with Japanese top laner Shunsuke "Evi" Murase of the Heretics, who was formerly of Detonation FocusMe, he is one of the imports that LEC supporters are eager to see in action.
