Xbox CEO Phil Spencer hinted at the prospect of a Starcraft revival if Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard is approved in an interview with Wired marking the 25th anniversary of the Age of Empires series. Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition and Age of Empires 4 for Xbox recently announcements demonstrate Microsoft's commitment to bringing RTS games to the Xbox platform, and few RTS titles are as well-known or influential as Starcraft, a sci-fi classic from Blizzard.

Blizzard's high fantasy design from their popular Warcraft strategy games was given a sci-fi makeover in the original Starcraft, which was released for the PC in 1998 and went on to become one of the most recognizable franchises of all time. With a variety of playable races to select from, each with its own tech tree and special techniques, Starcraft quickly gained a devoted following thanks to its simple-to-pick-up but challenging-to-master gameplay. The final game in the series was Starcraft Remastered, which came out in 2017 after the release of multiple expansion packs and a 2010 sequel. Many fans have been dissatisfied with Blizzard's seeming lack of interest in the game in recent years, as evidenced by Simu Liu of Shang Chi pleading with Blizzard devs to save Starcraft 2022.

In his interview with Wired, Spencer first made it clear that he does not have authority over Activision Blizzard. First of all, he declared, he was not permitted to make any choices about what transpires at Blizzard, Activision, or King. All of this is just discussing and thinking about what the potential is. When the history of RTS games is considered here, specifically from Blizzard, one can't help but think of both StarCraft and Warcraft.

Spencer also stated that he cannot collaborate with the teams behind these titles, therefore he currently has no intentions. However, because these games have had a significant cultural impact and affect video gaming, the Xbox chief is eager to discuss these games with the teams and see what chances can arise.

Starcraft provided as many RTS enthusiasts' introduction to the genre. Others saw it as the beginning of a lifelong infatuation. There are few games that can match the excitement of Starcraft, and few brands more deserving of a new lease on life. Whether players were enjoying the unexpectedly deep tale of the games' campaign modes or perfecting the build queue for the competitive multiplayer matches.
