Steam broke a significant milestone this weekend. The gaming portal registered over 30 million users for the first time. Today around 14:00 UTC, 30,032,005 gamers were using the platform. Most of the gamers have been enjoying some free time at the weekend playing their favorite PC games, but a huge number would also engage themselves in the community or will browse and purchase more games through the storefront.

At the time of weekends in 2022, users of Steam have peaked in the region of 27 to 29 million. The last highest concurrent user quota was at the end of March 2022, when 29,986,681 users were engaged on the platform. Better weather in the northern hemisphere means people get us more during the weekend, letting their gaming dens or fortresses of solitude collect dust. The night is starting to draw in and along with this, Steam concurrent user figures have nudged past that 30M milestones, even before we hit Halloween.

The PC platform is great for its versatility, potential for huge amounts of CPU and GPU processing power, openness, and so on. This latest Steam data shows the durability in the field of better competition from consoles, mobile, and streaming game platforms. On top of that, there is plenty of news about PC and component sales slipping as the recession bites, but we see PC gaming is the strongest.

Should the new Steam record sheer PCs and components companies? To some extent, yes, but we have observed PC enthusiasts and DIYers that like to spend and upgrade shrug at new releases due to pricing. It can also be said that PC and component makers cannot carry on like there is still a crypto-boom. Some enjoy selling flagship components at the top of the market now, but many mainstream users will remain price sensitive.

Lastly, congratulations to Steam, and we are right now looking forward to the following milestones – perhaps soon after Christmas and then before the good weather returns in 2023.
