Five free worlds based on the new documentary series Frozen Planet 2 were created via a collaboration between BBC Earth and Minecraft. Players can travel the worlds as creatures like a penguin, bumblebee, and polar bear for the first time ever, providing a fresh perspective. As with natural history filmmaking, players are entrusted with capturing significant animal behavior to inform environmental studies.

The producer of the Frozen Planet 2 television series Elizabeth White said that the ability of the natural environment to interest and enthrall viewers of all ages is one of its wonderful qualities. We are excited to collaborate with Minecraft on this collection of educational video games that will allow kids to play through stories inspired by the show and learn more about the difficulties these habitats face through the added lesson content.

Head of Minecraft Education Allison Matthews added that education about the effects of climate change and inspiring a new generation of young people to practice sustainability have never been more important. This alliance is the following significant step in the direction of fulfilling our belief that it is our duty to do so.
