As the popularity of Steam Deck has stirred up the sector of growing handheld gaming PC, Valve released a booklet informing the development of a follow-up device with enhanced SteamOS. This suggests that a new device - the Steam Deck 2 - may be next in the line of products.

Valve has recently released a marketing booklet discussing the company’s plans for Steam Deck and its upgraded versions in the future. Although Valve didn't provide many details, they aren't content with only one Deck. In order to communicate the company's and Steam Deck's design objectives to audiences in Asian nations like Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, Valve prepared the marketing booklet. A part of it says: “In the future, Valve will follow up on this product with improvements and iterations to hardware and software, bringing new versions of Steam Deck to market.”

In addition to the handheld devices, Valve reaffirmed its intention to extend the Steam Deck's upgrades to conventional PCs. A new iteration of Steam's Big Picture feature will be built around its user interface. A compatibility layer created from Steam Deck shall allow games to be played on Chromebooks as well.

Many PC games can currently be played on Steam Deck, thanks to its processing capability. Currently, there are three variations of Valve's handheld gaming system, but players must note that certain versions of Valve's handheld gaming device are not available for purchase in certain regions.

  • Version 64 GB (eMMC), which simply includes a carrying case.

  • 256 GB (NVMe SSD) edition, which offers quicker storage, a carrying case, and a bundle of exclusive Steam community profiles.

  • Version with 512 GB (NVMe SSD) offers the same advantages as the version with 256 GB, but also has a quality anti-glare etched glass and a unique virtual keyboard theme.

The first-generation Steam Deck contains the following features when it comes to specifications:

  • Seven-inch IPS screen running at 60Hz with a maximum brightness of 400 nits and a resolution of 1280x800.

  • CPU AMD Zen 2 (4 cores, 8 threads)

  • 8 cores and 1 GB of VRAM in the AMD RDNA 2 GPU.

  • 8 GB of the 16 GB of LPDDR5 memory is accessed by the GPU40Wh battery.

With the rapid advancement of the tech world, gaming has also become accessible and convenient as with these devices, players don’t have to remain hooked to their PC or laptop. The ability for everyone to play their favourite games while on the go is the best feature of having a pocket PC. The Steam Deck 2 may be coming soon following the immense success of Steam Deck in the portable market.
