Starfield modders are preparing patch to fix bugs

Even though the highly anticipated sci-fi RPG is still more than half a year away from its intended
release, a group of modders is already banding together to produce a Starfield Community Patch to
fix flaws in the game.

There is a lengthy history of fan-made Bethesda game patches. Alongside flashier modifications that
bring the Master Chief to Skyrim or a McDonald's to Morrowind, projects like the Unofficial Oblivion
Patch tackle the time-consuming, lunch-pail task of addressing mesh flaws, scripting difficulties, and
mismatched item enchantments that defied official bug patches. After reinstalling an old favourite,
you would typically need to start by picking up the corresponding patch, especially for games using
the Gamebryo and Creation engines Bethesda has been developing since Morrowind (and has
brought forward to Starfield).

It makes it natural that the modders behind the Starfield Community Patch would want to plan and
get started given the degree of hype for Starfield and Bethesda's history of launch day problems.
However, one can't help but picture a scenario in which too many individuals are attempting to
squeeze in the door at once— Even once Starfield is released, Bethesda will still be working hard to
fix bugs, and both the official team and community patchers may find themselves pressed for time.
However, we are confident the Starfield Community Patch will prove to be just as important after
the initial frenzy as earlier unofficial patches.

The fact that such a project is in progress even before Starfield debuts speaks something about
Bethesda's reputation. Although it’s always believed that non-game-breaking or completion-blocking
bugs might add a little texture to a game, it’s funny how this kind of endeavour is such an obvious
failure. You can always count on NPCs asking each other about the Fighter's Guild, whether they are
in the gentle highlands of Cyrodiil or the furthest regions of space.
