According to reports, production on Netflix's live-action rendition of the Horizon video game series for PlayStation will shortly start. Sony's plans to adapt the popular video game series for Netflix were just revealed one month ago. Even though the sci-fi RPG series only consists of two titles, it has been a huge success for PlayStation. To create Horizon Zero Dawn, Guerilla left the Killzone franchise. The game was a huge commercial success and received acclaim from both fans and critics. Sony was able to pitch Horizon Forbidden West as one of the first significant titles on the PlayStation 5 as the demand for a sequel grew quite quickly. As a premier PlayStation VR2 game, Horizon: Call of the Mountain is now supported by PlayStation.

Considering everything, it makes reasonable that Sony is attempting to cash in on the IP by extending it beyond gaming. The Ronin reports that filming for the upcoming Horizon TV series, allegedly titled Horizon 2074, will start in Toronto in August. It's also feasible that the show will be ready for the holidays in 2023 or early 2024 because production is anticipated to end in March 2023. There isn't much information available about the show officially, however insider Jeff Grubb claimed it will essentially act as a prequel to the games and depict humanity before its demise. This would imply that the programme takes place hundreds of years before the games, giving Netflix the option to do many different things with it. In the upcoming weeks, before the programme starts production, we may learn more about the casting, the official plot, and other information. Fans should take this with a grain of salt because it hasn't been officially confirmed and it's likely that the programme isn't shooting so early.

Outside of games, PlayStation has been growing a number of its franchises. 2023 will see the release of Neill Blomkamp's cinematic version of Gran Turismo, The Last of Us is being adapted by HBO with a 2019 release date in mind, and God of War is being worked on by Amazon. A lot is going on with PlayStation, and if all of these projects succeed, more PlayStation movies and TV shows will probably follow.
