In the Elden Ring, the players will find the path ahead is blocked on advancing towards the Erdtree. The main goal is to go to Erdtree and get the title of Elden Lord. But even after acquiring enough Gold Runes, the players are barred by some forces from entering the Erdtree and claiming the title. 

About Mountaintops of the Giants 

Mountaintops of the Giants act as a safe haven for some, situated far north of the Lands Between, is a heavily frozen region north of Leyndell, where two of the demigods, Malenia and Miquella, have tried to establish their homes. 

What is happening in the story?

With the players facing hindrance in entering the Erdtree and claiming the Elden Lord title, they have only a few restricted options. The players can either return to the Roundtable Hold and visit the Finger Reader Enia or the Two Fingers. Going back to Enia might fetch the players some answers than the Two Fingers. 

But on conferring with both Enia and Melina, they ask the players to burn down the Erdtree, which is a cardinal sin in the game. With no choice left, the players will have to head to the east of Leyndell and the Grand Lift of Rold, taking them to the mountains. There the players will head to find Flame of the Ruins, encounter Miquell's Haligtree and might also face the demigod Malenia and claim a Great Rune. 

The fascinating, frozen region of Mountaintops of the Giants unfolds new dimensions of the story of Elden Ring. It reveals the happenings of the time between the Shattering and now. The players' goal in Mountaintops of the Giants is to claim the Flame Ruin, a remnant of their culture and the Fell God they worship. It is this Flame Ruin which is capable of burning down the Erdtree. It is the Fire Monks who worship the Flame of Ruin. In Mountaintops of the Giants, the players must fight the mighty Fire Giant. Killing him will unlock the Giant's Forge and the Flame of the Ruin.
