Like Dark Souls games, death is the central concept of the plot. The Lands Between is a wild place beyond the fog where reality comes structured by the will of the land's demigods and gods. In the story, Marika, goddess of the land and its queen, has altered the reality to end the Destined Death. In the game, death comes largely broken, and many have been alive for a long time. Hence, which is why the players, Tarnished, get to hear howls all over the world of Elden Ring.

Shattering was the most significant event in the game

In the Elden Ring, Marika is the most powerful. The Elden Ring was sent to the Lands Between by the Greater Will with the help of the cosmic force called Outer God. the Shattering brought an apocalypse as it gave birth to the scarlet rot, which in turn transformed Caelid into the most dreaded part of the Lands Between. But it was the assassination of Godwyn which was the turning point causing Lands Between to plunge into the chaos that it is experiencing now.
