Zenless Zone Zero, an action-RPG set in the last bastion of civilization following a world-ending tragedy, has been revealed by the authors of Genshin Impact. There hasn't been much information revealed about the upcoming title from the gacha gaming titans, but what we do know so far gives us a pretty good idea of the tone and gameplay to expect!

A mystical calamity wiped away civilization, spawning the Hollows: "disordered realms" that erupt out of nowhere, infested with unknown monsters known as the Ethereal. New Eridu residents were able to survive by developing technology that allowed them to collect precious minerals from the Hollows. This allowed the city to investigate and even expand into the Hollows, industrializing and monetizing it over time—a development that has heightened tensions between the city's "monopolistic enterprises, gangs, conspirators, and fanatics."

Players will become Proxies amid this chaos, acting as professional guides for those seeking to explore the Hollows, shielding them from enemies, supporting them on missions, and learning more about their tales.

Beyond updates for the popular video games Honkai Impact 3rd and Genshin Impact, Zenless Zone Zero is the second video game that the developer is known to be working on. Honkai: Star Rail is the latest edition in the developer's Honkai series of free-to-play tactical role-playing games for PC and mobile platforms. While the genres may differ, it appears that Zenless Zone Zero will also be a free-to-play game for PC and mobile platforms.

As previously stated, Zenless Zone Zero will be revealed in full on May 13th. Version 2.6, "Zephyr of the Violet Garden," of Genshin Impact is now available. While the Version 2.7 upgrade is scheduled to arrive soon, there is no set timetable for its release. Genshin Impact is available for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, and mobile platforms for free. The video game will also be released for the Nintendo Switch in the future, though no specific date has been specified.

According to creator HoYoverse, the new "metaverse brand" of MiHoYo, Zenless Zone Zero will include a "fluid, cinematic action-oriented fighting system," with several characters offering distinct powers and combos. There's also "a roguelike gaming system that awaits exploration," which, while I'm not sure what it means in this context, makes me think that trips to Hollows will be randomized in some way.
