Crysis 4 was introduced in January with a brief teaser trailer, but little further was revealed other than the fact that it exists and that "Crysis 4" is merely a working title. We haven't heard anything about the upcoming first-person shooter since Crysis 3 in 2012 but be assured it is still in development. The game director for Crysis was recently announced on the official Crysis Twitter account. Name you're probably familiar with: Mattias Engström, who was the game director for Hitman 3, has joined Crytek as the development lead for Crysis 4. Engström was a level designer on the first two games of IO Interactive's current Hitman trilogy before taking over the lead on the third. He's also had experience as a leveler.

We are happy to announce that Mattias Engström, known for his work as Game Director for Hitman 3 at IO Interactive, joins the Crysis family as Game Director for the 4th installment in the Crysis franchise, starting this week. pic.twitter.com/hHkOrXIAt6

Mattias Engstrom, the game director for Hitman 3, will be in charge of Crysis 4, according to Crytek. Engstrom, who worked as a level designer on the first two modern Hitman games before moving on to direct Hitman 3, has also worked on Ubisoft games like Far Cry 3 and Assassin's Creed Revelations.

The announcement was exploited by Crytek to promote its job openings: the German studio is hiring for a variety of positions on the Crytek 4 project, including art director, game designer, and level designer. Given the nature of the positions, Crysis 4 appears to be a long way off.

The fourth Crysis installment was somewhat announced in 2012, which seems like a decade back. Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli claimed at the time that Crysis' future was free-to-play. Yerli noted at the time, "I believe F2P is our unavoidable future." "I believe there are F2P titles out there that can be story-telling, cooperative with friends, competitive with friends, and everything in between."
