Today during Sony's PlayStation 5 games event, Marvel revealed Marvel's Spider-Man Miles Moralesfor the PS5. Miles featured in Insominiac's original Spider-Man game as a playable character, although he was secondary to Peter Parker - so it seems like this entry is bouncing off Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse's success by giving the character a starring role. Spider-Man: Miles Morales releases on PlayStation 5 holiday 2020.
Sony’s EVP head of European business, Simon Rutter, has revealed to The Telegraph [paywall] (via VGC) that Miles Morales is at once an expansion to the PS4 game, as well as a remaster of sorts that upgrades the original content and is going to include “major enhancements” to the 2018 PS4 game.
“I guess you could call it an expansion and an enhancement to the previous game,” he said.
“There’s a substantial Miles Morales component – which is the expansion element – but also within the game as well there’s been major enhancements to the game and the game engine, obviously deploying some of the major PlayStation 5 technology and features.” In a trailer which debuted during Sony’s PS5 presentation, the company revealed their next title in the franchise after 2018’s Spider-Man.
The trailer itself showcases numerous special abilities for Miles, including electric capabilities, while also teasing some villains in store. There was a bit of confusion on whether it was an expansion to the original title earlier today. Although,at a later point, Insomniac Games clarified that Spider-Man: Miles Morales would be a standalone title coming to PS5 and also said that they will be discussing about the game in more detail at a future date.
