Last week Electronic Arts made a big move, by bringing a large portion of its exclusive titles to Steam. They were not just simply made available on Steam but were offered at great discounts too. The games included games from popular franchises, such as Crysis, Mirror’s Edge, Need for Speed, etc.

Now, they are taking another big step with Need for Speed : Heat. It is the latest addition to the popular Need for Speed franchise and was released on November 9, 2019. It was initially developed by Ghost Games and published by Electronic Arts. However, after release, Criterion Games took over the development. The publisher, EA confirmed in their patch notes for the June update, that with the patch being released on June 9, 2020, it would bring crossplay to it. It is the first Electronic Arts title ever to support crossplay. It will allow NFS:Heat owners across PC, Xbox One, PS4 to play together. According to the patch notes, it is optional. You will be prompted to enable the Crossplay feature, to play with players from other platforms. Having option on such matters is always a good thing, as some might not like to be forced to play with players from other platforms. Needless to say, you will only be able to play with players from different platforms, if they have also enabled Crossplay.

The official EA page states that this will be the final update for Need for Speed : Heat as now, they will dedicate all of their effort to the new upcoming Need for Speed game.

“As we at Criterion shift gears into the future with full focus on developing the next Need for Speed game, this will be the final update for Need for Speed Heat. Since the launch of Need for Speed Heat and as players continue to tear it up in Palm City, we’re listening to what you love about this experience, and what you all believe could be even better. With these insights, we have a terrific foundation to create the most expressive, most socially connected, action-packed game yet for Need for Speed fans and beyond.” - Electronic Arts

EA also announces that on June 16, 2020, Need for Speed : Heat will drop in the Origin Access Vault and EA Access vault. They also said “Keep an eye out at EA PLAY Live on June 18 for more Need for Speed and Steam announcements.” This leads us to believe that we would most likely get some information about the upcoming Need for Speed title in that event.
