Nvidia has launched a holiday event that showcases RTX in a Minecraft wonderland while simultaneously donating funds for London's Great Ormond Street Hospital.

This time of year is especially noteworthy, as it is celebrated as a season of generosity and charity. Ordinary people and businesses are urged to share and show compassion towards one another. Even Nvidia, the world's leading GPU manufacturer, has joined in the fun. Despite the controversy surrounding the tech giant's purchase of UK chipmaker ARM last year, it appears that Jensen Huang and his team are closing out the year with an event that not only showcases its own technology in one of the most popular games but also helps to raise money.

Nvidia is reportedly demonstrating its generous side with a Minecraft festive winter wonderland event that showcases the company's own ray-tracing skills, according to a recent article. This end-of-year winter map, created by prolific creative Ushio Tokura, aka Dr Bond, is set in three massive snow globes, with all the trappings that many people associate with this time of year. There's also a blocky Santa Claus who brings missions instead of gifts. The event is also being held to generate funds for a good cause, in this case, the Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital in London, which has a replica in "Winter World."

Fundraising and video games are frequently linked. Earlier this year, a gaming charity in the United Kingdom raised about $85,000 for a variety of worthwhile organisations around the country. Let's not forget that the Games Done Quick tournaments, which pit competing speedrunners against each other live on stream, have raised millions of dollars for various charities over the years. A donation page has been set up on Tiltify for the aforementioned Nvidia event, which is open to contributions from everyone.

In terms of Mojang's open-world sandbox game collaborating with Nvidia, Last year, Minecraft was updated with RTX, a ray-tracing technique developed by "team green" that uses an algorithm to generate considerably more realistic lighting and shadow effects. It's become something of an industry norm, particularly for triple AAA titles with big budgets. Along with this humanitarian event, the graphics card firm plans to release a slew of new hardware in the new year, including the RTX 3090 Ti, which will be available in January. While this collaboration between Nvidia and Minecraft is ostensibly intended to showcase RTX technology, it's also a method for users to donate to London's children's hospital, ensuring that the year ends on a positive note.
